The South West Regional office celebrates its 10th Anniversary this month. In November of 2007, Matt Potts was employed by BBS Building Control Ltd. to establish an office at Threemilestone, West of Truro. BBS already had established offices in London and the South East, however was keen to extend its services into Cornwall. Matt was joined by Stuart Anderson and Gill Maroney early in 2008 and the BBS South West Team was formed.
The Team set about contacting local architects, contractors and developers. Some of those contacted were pleased to have another option for Building Control services in the region. However, others were sceptical and concerned the recently established office would not survive. These fears proved groundless, so much so, that by the end of 2008 Matt, Stuart and Gill had outgrown their initial office. Larger premises and more staff were required! They moved, just a few miles, to their current offices at Chiverton Cross, located near the A30, one of the major routes through Cornwall.
10 years on and following a further office expansion the Team now comprises 14 full-time staff, including surveyors based in Devon and Dorset. Since 2007, the South West team has undertaken several thousand projects across all sectors of the construction industry, from private residential work to major housing, industrial and educational schemes. The recent acquisition by the Stroma Group enables BBS to provide an even greater level of service and national coverage. No doubt the next ten years will see further expansion in the South West and nationally.

The Minack Theatre, carved out of the granite cliff tops over 80 years ago, is one of the World’s most famous outdoor amphitheatres in a truly stunning setting. BBS has been appointed Building Control by RLT Architects of Penzance. RLT and BBS worked together on the complete re-build of the actors' changing room facilities back in 2010-2011. This latest scheme involves alterations to the backstage facilities building by extending the roof at second floor level with a new pitched roof and creating a third floor storage area.
We are delighted to be involved, once again, with The Minack Theatre Trust and RLT architects on such a unique project and location!
